LaTaja & Josh had such a beautiful summer wedding last year July 24th and we were so honored to be a part of their big day and provide great wedding photography and videography for our dear friends.
Originally this wedding was planned for 2020 but unfortunately, just like so many others, it had to be rescheduled due to covid-19 .
2020 was a stressful year for everyone and we were glad to find a new date for this wonderful celebration when things got a bit under control.

Now let’s dive in into the Wedding Day!

Bridal prep

We started the day from getting some photos and videos of Bridal prep at the Courtyard by Marriott East Lansing Okemos.
It was quite a hectic morning. LaTaja had 8 bridesmades! Yeah it’s a lot!
And Josh also had 8 groomsmen.
I’ve never seen such big bridal party before lol. So you can imagine that hair and make up for all 9 girls + 2 flower girls on top of that in one small hotel room was not easy task to accomplish.

Unfortunately bridal prep was running late and we didn’t even had a chance to take photos or videos of our bride LaTaja putting her dress on.

Quick tip for future brides:

Start getting your hair & make up ready first, before your bridesmaids! We’ve seen so many brides that think it’s a good idea to do their hair and make up last, but then they end up being rushed and missing out on great bridal prep shots because there is just no time left before the ceremony. And if you worry about your make up looking fresh, you can always have a make up artist do touch ups if necessary before they leave.

Nevertheless we got some fun shots with the girls as they were all getting ready and then headed it to take some shots of the guys.

Groom’s prep

Guys were getting ready at the same hotel, but in the conference room in the lobby. Which worked great for us and we could take all the shots we needed without having to waste time on travel to a separate location.
We took some photos and videos of the grooms prep, we even got a chance to record a little interview, as we call it, with Josh. Which was a great addition to their Highlight video.

And of course since guys usually don’t take as much time to get dressed as girls, we were able capture shots with rings, Josh writing vows, opening his gift from LaTaja and record a video interview for the video.

Ceremony

Ceremony was held at Brookshire Inn And Golf Club.
It’s a beautiful venue with nice outside area and covered reception pavilion.

The weather was very warm and nice at least for the ceremony part. Later during the day it started raining, but everyone was partying inside by that time.

The ceremony was quite short. After all the vows and rings exchange, marriage was sealed with a kiss and then followed by the ceremonial jumping of the broom. For those who don’t know about this tradition, it goes back to the times of 1840s and 1850s when enslaved African-Americans where not permitted to wed legally, as in law marriage was held to be a civil contract, and civil contracts required the consent of free persons. In the absence of any legal recognition, the enslaved community developed its own methods of distinguishing between committed and casual unions. The ceremonial jumping of the broom served as an open declaration of settling down in a marriage relationship. Jumping the broom was always done before witnesses as a public ceremonial announcement that a couple chose to become as close to married as was then allowed.

After the ceremony we took some bridal party portraits.

Shortly after the formal wedding portraits, reception was about to start.

The venue was lovely decorated. It was not very big venue but yet it fit a lot of people!!! I believe in summer this venue can fit up to 300 people as it has tons of extra rooms and outdoor patio area.

This wedding was not only gorgeous but also absolutely delicious!

Reception started traditionally with bridal party entrances, following by first dances, toasts, we even had a fun shoe game, then dinner, cake cutting and finishing the night with a wild party.

And when I say the party was wild, I really mean it!

The people were dancing all night with no breaks! It was amazing to watch and gave us a chance to get some great candid photo and video shots!

We were able to sneak out outside for few portraits before sun completely disappeared. But unlike most of the weddings, Taja and Josh told us that they don’t want to take much time taking photos and videos and they wanted to spend majority of the day celebrating their wedding with their guest and simply having fun, therefore we mostly were focusing on taking candid shots throughout the entire day.
