The Capital City Dragon Boat Race lit up Lansing’s Grand River this weekend with vibrant colors, rhythmic drumming, and a powerful sense of community.
I had the privilege of photographing the event, while my husband Alex - a certified drone pilot - captured epic aerial videos of the boats racing in action.
This incredible event was organized by the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing, whose mission is to support and empower women in our community. The race not only celebrated teamwork and culture but also raised awareness and funds for survivors of breast cancer and domestic violence.
Together, we documented the energy, resilience, and emotion of a day that truly showed what happens when a community comes together for a cause that matters.

Beyond the races, the shoreline was just as inspiring.
Local vendors filled the space with handmade goods, treats, and unique finds that brought even more life to the celebration.
It was wonderful to see the community support small businesses and artisans while enjoying the festival atmosphere.
The presence of the Greater Lansing Chinese Association added even more cultural richness.
From the support of local sponsors like New Star Financial, to sipping the delicious Momo Tea, to admiring the artistry of traditional Chinese calligraphy, the day beautifully honored both heritage and togetherness.
One of the sweetest highlights of the 2025 Capital City Dragon Boat Race was the incredible homemade cookies from The Berry Pickin’ Baker - hands down the best cookies at the event, baked fresh right here in Michigan. My personal favorite was the Cake Batter Cookie =)
