Do You Really Need a Second Photographer for Your Wedding?!

If you are shopping for a Wedding photographer, you probably seen that some photographers offer a second shooter and you are wondering, “Why would I need 2 photographers for my wedding??? Isn’t One - enough???”

Lansing Wedding Photographer - AA Studios LLC

Hey there! I am Anastasiia - the owner and main Photographer at AA Studios LLC| Photography/Videography Studio based in Lansing, MI.

I can honestly say that having a second shooter at your wedding is essential to ensure all the gorgeous moments of your wedding day are photographed and nothing is missing.

As a photographer, I want to capture all the details, emotion, highlights and key moments of your wedding day. But what happens when these moments are happening simultaneously in different places? Unfortunately I don’t posses Hermione’s time turner and can't be in two places at the same time and because of that I have to decide which moment is more important to capture.

Here are some examples when second photographer is beneficial:

Getting Ready

There are so many funny shots and emotional touching moments when the Bride is getting ready that I simply have to photograph. But during this time the groom and the boys are getting ready as well! Therefore, one of the reasons, I prefer to have a second photographer to photograph the boys, so I could stay and focus on the bride and her bridesmaids.

The boy's photos usually don't take as long, so the second photographer can also photograph the ceremony area before guests arrive. If you have a beautiful ceremony with luxurious florals and decorations, these photos are very nice to have in your album. After all, you put so much effort decorating the venue and making it look gorgeous!

The Ceremony

Have you seen the beautiful shot taken from behind the bride as she walks up the aisle?

I love that wide shot that sets the scene and shows the dress as the bride glides up the aisle. At that moment, the reaction of the groom needs to be captured. The only way to get both of those important shots is with two photographers on each end of the aisle.

After You Tie The Knot

It is nice to have some photos of guests enjoying cocktail hour or mingling together while the newlyweds are away with the lead photographer having bridal party portraits taken.

These are just some examples of the times two photographers are beneficial. We want you to have a diverse collection of wedding images and with one photographer, even if you are having a small wedding, it can be very difficult and sometimes impossible to capture every shot.

Another advantage, aside from receiving many more photos, is that the photographers have more time to capture creative and artistic imagery.

To sum up, I believe it is much better to have a lead photographer and a second shooter at your wedding day if you want to make sure your wedding documented perfectly. The small investment of having a second shooter is worth every penny because you can't have too many photos of your best day ever!

I hope this helped you decide whether you need second photographer or not for your special day.

I will see you at your Wedding!
